Atari8 Software Archive
My name is Jonathan Halliday, and I am the author of all the software hosted on this website. I was born in 1972 in the North East of England, where I have lived all my life. I've been interested in computing ever since I got my first Atari 65XE back in 1987. In the mid-nineties, I wrote many programs for the Atari XL/XE range of computers, mostly in assembly language. Although I sent some of the software to magazines in the hope they would be published, most of my programs were primarily for personal use and were put in storage when I packed my Atari equipment away in 2001. They remained there until 2008 when a nostalgic discussion about 6502 programming inspired me to dust off the Atari, install an emulator on the PC, and share some of my almost forgotten programs on the Internet.
Since resurrecting my old software and finding it well received by the Atari8 community, I've rediscovered my interest in 6502 programming. Time permitting, the software on this site is enjoying continued development in an emulated environment on the PC. It's amazing that thirty year old technology can still present so many enjoyable challenges.
The Software
All software on this site was written for the Public Domain, and is freeware. Source code, where available, may be freely modified and redistributed, providing credit is given to the author. Programs include:
- The Last Word (a commercial-quality word processor)
- RIF SpartaDOS Utilities
- XEDIT (a programmers' text editor)
- The MA65 Macro Assembler for SpartaDOS
I hope you enjoy the software, and I look forward to hearing any comments and suggestions for further development.
